LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands recently turned over the fourth toilet block with handwashing facility and water catchment tank to school officials of the Buyagan elementary School during simple rites held at the school compound at barangay Poblacion here.
The aforesaid initiative is a Global Grant Project of the Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands District 3790 in the Philippines and the Rotary Club of Shinyangsan, District 3721 in South Korea.
Earlier, the civic organization turned over similar facilities to the school officials of the Puguis Elementary School, La Trinidad Central School and the Lubas Elementary School to help in ensuring the readiness of the public schools in complying with the prescribed minimum public health standards and basic health and safety protocols once face-to-face classes will be allowed to resume.
Engr. Melchor S. Licoben, general manager of the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) and incumbent president of the Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands, disclosed that other schools that stand to benefit from the health and sanitation facilities being donated by the group include the Beckel Elementary School, Ambiong Elementary School, Tawang Elementary School and Tacjan Elementary School, all in the capital town and the Virac Elementary School in Itogon town.
He claimed that the implementation of the aforesaid projects is being supervised, administered and managed by the Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands because of the availability of in-house experts to ensure the quality of the projects that will be turned over to the recipients.
According to him, works on the facilities that will be turned over to the recipient schools have already started but there are some slight delays in the prosecution of the projects because of the ongoing monsoon rains.
However, Licoben expressed hope that the completion of the facilities will be realized the soonest to be turned over to the school officials of the schools that had been identified as beneficiaries of the projects.
Licoben assumed the presidency of the Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands last July 1, 2020 and his term will expire one year after.
The Rotary Club of Baguio Highlands is the youngest chapter of the civic organization having existed over the past 3 years.
