TABUK CITY, Kalinga — A delegation from Rotary International, led by Atty. Jennifer Scott, International Director and a lawyer specializing in environmental law, visited the city to review ongoing water and sanitation projects funded by Rotary Clubs worldwide. Accompanying her were District 3770 Senior Deputy Governor Armando San Diego and past Assistant Governor Mark San Diego.
The visiting team toured several projects under the Rotary Club (RC)-Kalinga Chapter, headed by Engr. Jage Caddumlay, with a focus on promoting sustainable community development. Of particular interest was the Tabuk Water and Sanitation Project, which was implemented in 2018 with a total budget of PhP2,285,398. This project was generously funded by the Rotary Club of Melbourne, Australia through past President Ruth Martinez, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Meycauayan Uptown, supported by The Rotary Foundation (TRF). The city government contributed PhP500,000 as its counterpart.
As the Service Projects Chair, past President Maricel Daluping Kiley served as the main contact representing RC Tabuk. It is worth noting that the project benefited from the dedicated efforts of several past presidents, including Loyda Saboy, Maria Linda Gavino, Catherine Lee Uera, and Lilia Beatrice Gabit, who contributed to the project’s conceptualization through to its implementation.
The project benefited the five barangays of Bulanao Norte, Cudal, Guilayon, Laya West, and Nambucayan and included the installation of water tanks, pipeline distribution systems, wash stations, and three community toilets located within schools and passing through the communities.
The purpose of the visit was not an audit but a sustainability assessment to evaluate how the projects can be maintained and improved for long-term impact.
Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero was represented by Aurora D. Amilig, City Information Officer, who expressed the Mayor’s appreciation for the Rotary Club’s ongoing support to the barangays.
`Discussions also highlighted potential future collaborations between Rotary International and the City of Tabuk, emphasizing mutual efforts toward community resilience and sustainable development. By Tabuk PIO
