CLARK, Pampanga – Members of the Cordillera Regional Research, Development, and Innovation Committee (RRDIC) attended the regional roadshow for the National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document (NIASD) 2023-2032 on October 25-26, 2023 in Clark, Pampanga. With the theme, “Reshaping the Future, Advancing the Filipinnovation,” the event is part of a series of roadshows for the NIASD for each island cluster. Participants in the roadshow were representatives from Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A, 4B, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
The CAR delegation was led by Assistant Dir. Pita Picpican of the Department of Science and Technology representing the RRDIC, with Jose Dado of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) and representatives from the Department of Information and Communications Technology and University of the Philippines Baguio.
Usec. Rosemarie G. Edillon of NEDA’s Policy and Planning Group presented the Philippine Innovation Ecosystem. She said, “In turning our vision of the future into a reality, we must consider how the present conditions will drive the future, while also acknowledging the weight of the past.” Hence, “it is important to carefully characterize the future we do not want and the future we want,” she underscored. The unwanted futures are Masakuna (distress and disasters), Langit-Lupa (wider inequalities), and Mabagal (slow change).
Activities that the RRDIC would undertake include institutionalizing the Cordillera RRDIC to function as the National Innovation Council (NIC) in the region and strengthening collaboration with the private sector in terms of procurement, scholarships, incubation for start-ups, and technology transfer and adoption.
The Committee will also update the Cordillera Regional Research Development, and Innovation Agenda (RRDIA) 2023-2028 integrating the NIASD priority sectors and strengthening the region’s Regional Inclusive Innovation Center (RIIC) innovation ecosystem and Technological Consortium for Awareness, Readiness, and Advancement of Knowledge in Innovation (TARAKI) services.
In line with this, the Cordillera region celebrated this year’s Innovation Day on April 26. Activities are also lined-up for the Start-Up Week this November with the brand CordInnovation.
