SABLAN, Benguet – The municipal government decided to re-employ some twenty-three contractual and actual employees to help in the effective and efficient delivery of government services for the overall betterment of the municipality.
Mayor Alfredo B. Dacumos, Jr. said that the re-employed workers include some 18 contract of service personnel and 5 casual workers to help in cascading the services of the local government to the town’s various barangays.
He added that despite the meager funds of the municipal government, the re-employment of these workers had to be prioritized because the personnel of different offices need to be augmented for them to effectively and efficiently discharge their respective functions to sustain the growth and development of the municipality.
The municipal chief executive claimed that his administration had to make do with the available funds earmarked for the re-employment of the said contractual and casual workers so as not to compromise the delivery of services to the people as they were instrumental in ensuring that the various offices were able to attend to the needs of the people seeking assistance from the municipality.
For this year, Mayor Dacumos earlier stated that one of the major thrusts of the municipal government is the aggressive promotion of the different tourist destinations and agriculture to rev up the economy for the residents relying on these sectors to be able to earn for their livelihood.
According to him, the municipal government has to maximize the potentials of the tourist destinations and agriculture in the different parts of the municipality so that people wanting to explore these beautiful tourist spots will consider these as must-visit places and thus contribute in aggressively promoting the municipality as a rest and recreation area.
Sablan is known for scenic resort destinations, such as waterfalls and clean rivers, favoured people wanting to escape from the heavy traffic in Baguio City and those looking for other places to visit, especially those coming from the lowlands and wanting to spend their well deserved break in scenic areas.
Dacumos called on people wanting to visit new destinations to ensure they will also visit the different resort destinations in the municipality and help in promoting these various tourist spots.
Further, the famous fruit festival is the town’s crowd-drawing event held every September where different semi-temperate fruits produced in the municipality are presented and sold as fruit production is one of the thriving businesses of the agriculture industry stakeholders in the municipality.
He expressed hope that the municipality will benefit from the ongoing gradual and safe revival of the local economy so that people can get back their jobs and livelihoods.
