BAGUIO CITY – San Jose Elementary School nipped Lucban Elementary School when action for the Y’CUP inter-school basketball tilt resumed last Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the YMCA gym. The game one match-up had players, coaches, and spectators immensely tense as the outcome of the game swings rapidly due to the close clashes of both opponents.
Concentrated on defense, both opponents found it hard to get near the hoop on the first canto of play. Turnovers consistently eat their playing time, except for some successful outlet passes and steals for go-for-goal conversions. Lucban took advantage of the low scoring ballgame to edge San Jose elementary by four points 10-6 at the end of the first quarter buzzer.
San Jose, however, gave Lucban a taste their own medicine as they tighten their defensive strategy. The effort forced Lucban to commit turnovers and gave San Jose opportunities to score points, equalling a 10-6 point conversion in the field and tie the score at 16-all to end of the first half of play.
Third quarter action saw both ball clubs in another low scoring game pace in the third canto. Both teams had scarce basket conversions, with San Jose posting an 8-6 run to the end of the third canto of play leading by just two points, 24-22.
San Jose took advantage of the same strategy in the last quarter of play while converting two more field goals against a lone basket by Lucban to end the game, 28-26.
