BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently requested all schools and universities in the city to conduct quarterly mental health assessments and awareness programs for students in their respective institutions.
Under Resolution No. 659, local legislators stated that learning institutions should conduct mental health assessments and awareness programs for students to cope with their mental health problems for better performance in their studies and social interactions that would also reflect the performance and reputation of their respective schools.
During the Scout Officials For A Day (SOFAD) session held on October 21, 2024, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Juaquin Andres B. Reyes that requested all the schools and universities in the city to conduct quarterly mental health assessment and mental health awareness programs for students in their respective institutions.
The council claimed the mental health assessment and awareness is an important aspect for the growth of students as poor mental health has an impact on the performance of students and increases the risk of self-harm or suicide.
Earlier, the government has acknowledged the issue of mental health problems and taking action by establishing a help line and raising awareness of the problem.
The body stipulated that students spend most of their time at schools and universities, which can be considered their second home where they can also continue to discover, develop and enhance their skills.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the various schools and universities for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
