BAGUIO CITY – The Regional Social Development Committee (RSDC) adopted the social sector chapters of the Regional Development Plan (RDP) 2023-2028 during its 1st quarter meeting held on March 6, 2023.
The NEDA technical secretariat, led by Regional Dir. Susan A. Sumbeling, presented the five chapters that aim to develop and protect the capabilities of individuals and families in the region. These include strategies for boosting health, improving education and lifelong learning, establishing livable communities, increasing employability, and strengthening social protection.
On the presentation of the nutrition chapter together with food security, Regional Coordinator Bella M. Basalong of the National Nutrition Council recommended that indicators related to health such as rate of malnutrition and growth stunting should remain under the health chapter. Private Sector Representative (PSR) Ferdinand Gonzales suggested the disaggregation of data by gender.
The Committee endorsed the construction of the Masallong footbridge in Tocucan, Mountain Province and two solar-operated water drinking water in barangays Tuliao and Basao in Tabuk City, Kalinga.
These social infrastructure projects are proposed for funding under the PAMANA program of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace and Reconciliation, and Unity. Likewise, it endorsed the resolution enjoining provincial LGUs to implement and sustain the Group Enrollment Program under the Universal Health Care Act.
The Committee adopted the convergence of basic social services through an exhibit as its banner program for 2023. This will be conducted during the observance of the Education Congress in December wherein all social sector agencies and its partners will be providing information and their services.
The Regional Social Development Committee tackles regional policy concerns on health, education, social protection and housing. La Paz Mayor Joseph Sto. Niño B. Bernos serves as the Committee Chair and the NEDA Regional Office acts as the Secretariat. By DRD
