In celebration of the Investor Protection Week (IPW) 2022, the Securities and Exchange Commission – Baguio Extension Office (SEC-BEO) conducted the Roadshow 2022 with the theme “Balik Alindog for Financial Literacy: The Road to Being A SEC-SEE (Scam-proof, Equipped, and Empowered) Investor on 09 November 2022 at the University of the Cordilleras Theater.
The IPW aims to promote transacting only with legitimate and safe investments. “We want everyone to make informed decisions on their investments, and not to fall prey to ruthless scammers who are out to get our hard-earned money. We aim for a scam-free Philippines, with equipped and empowered investors who play an important role in our country’s economic growth,” said Atty. Regina May Cajucom – De Guzman, SEC-BEO Director.
Director De Guzman gave a brief introduction to personal finance and investments, highlighting the importance of financial and investment planning and identifying social and economic influences in the participants’ personal financial goals and spending habits.
Atty. Lalaine Arorong, Securities Counsel of SEC-BEO, also enumerated the steps on spotting and unmasking investment scams. “Understanding the different kinds of investment schemes, spotting the common red flags of investment scams, and identifying the characteristics and the differences of legitimate and illegal investment schemes will aid us in making sound investment decisions,” Arorong explained
The Roadshow was actively participated by students from the University of the Cordilleras and Saint Louis University, representatives from the City Government of Baguio and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, partner government agencies from the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, and the Cagayan Valley Region, and various stakeholders from the private sector.
