Senior High students undergo BLS training

BONTOC, Mountain Province – Seventy-three  Saint Vincent School (SVS) – Senior High School students are now equipped with the knowledge and skills on Basic Life Skills and Basic First Aid.

This, following the conduct of a three –day Basic Life Support (BLS) training on March 13-15, 2019 at Samoki Valley Inn Bontoc, Mountain Province by a team from the Bontoc LGU and its partner line agencies.

Prior to the lecture on BLS, an orientation to Basic Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) was discussed by Municipal DRRM Officer Johanna Padaen stressing on the four thematic areas of DRRM. These are Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Response and Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery.

Lectures on the Principles of Emergency Care, Introduction to Basic Life Support, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) Management and Basic First Aid were discussed to the participants.

The facilitators also taught the skills and proper techniques on CPR, FBAO management, wound management using the elastic and triangular bandaging techniques, management of suspected fractures using the splinting techniques, basic rescue carries and the proper techniques on patient packing and transport.

The participants were evaluated individually on their skills on CPR and FBAO.

As part of their evaluation, a simulation exercise patterned to a mini amazing race was given to them. This aims to evaluate the participants’ knowledge gained and skills developed on Basic DRRM, BLS and First Aid.

Prior to the conduct of the training, the SVS –Senior High School requested the Bontoc LGU through its MDRRMO to conduct the training to be funded by the parents of the participants while the venue was provided by the management of the Samoki Valley Inn.

The Bontoc MDRRMO responded to the request and provided the materials needed as its counterpart.

The training team comprises personnel from the Bontoc LGU, Bontoc Fire Station, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and Mountain Province State Polytechnic College.
