Kamakailan ay idineklara na ng PAG-ASA ang pagsisimula ng tag-ulan. Asahan na natin ang pagdating ng mga bagyo sa mga susunod na buwan at pagbaha sa ilang mga lugar. Dahil dito, uso na naman ang iba’t-ibang sakit gaya ng trangkaso, dengue, leptospirosis at iba pang health conditions na dulot ng pag-uulan.

Sa panahon ng pagkakasakit, nakahandang umalalay ang SSS. May cash benefit na ibinibigay sa mga miyembrong hindi nakapagtrabaho dahil sa natamong pagkakasakit o pinsala. Hindi lang employed member ang qualified sa SSS Sickness benefit Program. Maging ang mga Voluntary, OFW, Self-Employed at Non-working Spouse ay maaari ding makapag-avail ng sickness benefit basta’t masunod ang mga qualifying conditions. 

Una, ang miyembro ay hindi nakapagtrabaho dahil sa sakit o pinsala at naconfine sa ospital o nagpahinga sa bahay ng apat na araw o higit pa. Pangalawa, dapat ay may hindi bababa sa tatlong buwang posted contribution sa loob ng 12 buwan bago ang semester ng pagkakasakit. Halimbawa, nagkasakit si Pedro ngayong May 2023. Ang semester ng pakakasakit niya ay pasok sa period ng January 2023 hanggang June 2023. Ibig sabihin, hindi dapat bababa sa 3 months ang posted na contribution ni Pedro mula January 2022 hanggang December 2022. 

Pangatlo, kung ang miyembro ay employed, kinakailangan niyang i-notify ang kanyang employer tungkol sa kanyang pagkakasakit gamit ang kaniyang My.SSS account. Kung Voluntary, OFW, Self-Employed o Non-Working Spouse member, derecho na ang aplikasyon sa My.SSS account. Online na ang aplikasyon sa benepisyong ito kaya mahalaga na kada miyembro ay mayroong My.SSS account. Ihanda lamang ang medical certificate para mai-upload. Pang-apat na qualifying condition, kung employed, dapat na-consume o naubos na ang lahat ng company sick leave with pay nito. Halimbawa, kung si Pedro ay binigyan ng kaniyang kumpanya ng limang araw na company sick leave with pay at na-ospital siya ng sampung araw, ang natitirang limang araw ang babayaran sa kaniya ng SSS.

Ang halaga ng sickness benefit ay katumbas ng 90 porsyento ng Average Daily Salary Credit (ADSC) ng miyembro. Dapat ring malaman ng mga miyembro na ang Monthly Salary Credit o MSC ay isa sa mga batayan sa pag-compute ng kanilang Sickness Benefit. Ang MSC ay ang compensation base para sa kontribusyon at mga benepisyo na batay sa buwanang kita ng isang SSS member. Simula January 2023 ang maximum MSC ay P30,000 mula sa dating maximum MSC na P20,000.00. 

Sa paglalarawan ng Sickness Benefit, gamitin natin ang kaso ni Pedro. Nagkasakit siya at naospital ng 10 araw. Subalit, dahil may limang araw siyang company sick leave with pay, limang araw na lamang ang compensable period o babayaran sa kaniya ng SSS. Dahil naospital siya noong May 2023, ang 12-month period na titignan ng SSS ay mula January 2022 hanggang December 2022. Ipagpalagay natin na sa loob ng 1 taon na iyon ay kumpleto ang hulog ni Pedro sa SSS. Susumahin ni SSS ang anim na buwang pinakamataas na Monthly Salary Credit at babahagiin ito sa standard unit na 180. Halimbawa: P16,000 ang anim na pinakamataas na MSC (P16,000 x 6 = P96,000). I-divide ito sa 180 kaya lalabas na P533.33. Imutiply ito sa 90% para makuha ang daily sickness allowance. Lumalabas na P480.00 ang daily sickness allowance. Para malaman ang kabuuang halaga ng sickness benefit batay sa number of compensable days, i-multiply ito sa kung ilan ang compensable days: P480.00 x 5 days = P2,400 and Sickness Benefit na matatanggap ni Pedro. Muli, ito ay pagsasalarawan lamang. Maaaring bumisita sa anumang sangay ng SSS kung may katanungan o nais ng paglilinaw tungkol sa halagang matatanggap sa Sickness Benefit.
