Singles: This is the best time to go all out!

As Christmas comes and singles tend to get dramatically emotional (of being alone), we continue with our special series speaking about the season of being single. Two Sundays ago, we talked about ‘Being Single is Not Equal to Being Sad.’ Last Sunday, we said that your ‘Single Season Can Be Your Peak Season.’

Today, let me exhort you to worship while you are waiting. In this season of being single, we often think of waiting as waiting for the one, for that life partner. There is nothing wrong about that. What’s wrong is the myth associated with waiting for the one.

One myth is that you will only be happy when you meet the one (which we debunked in our article two Sundays ago). We hold to the truth that you can be happy as a single.

Another myth is that you just wait and wait passively. Let me offer this: wait actively! And no, I am still not talking about actively looking yet (reserve that topic for now).

One of the ways to wait actively is to serve joyfully! This could be your worship while you wait.

In church, we often associate the word worship to singing songs of thanksgiving, of praises, of our everything to the Lord. That may be true. On a higher perspective, our worship is our way of life. Hence, as I said above, one of the ways to worship while you are waiting is to serve. Serve joyfully.

Look for opportunities to serve both in the spiritual and secular realm of your world. When I say serve, it is not just confined to what you do in the church or in your spiritual community. It includes what you can do at work, in your business, in your organizations.

Let me give some specific examples:

Can you sing or play a musical instrument? Why not volunteer to serve in your church choir?

Can you write articles? Why not write inspiring and instructing essays to be shared on your blog, on social media, in bulletins, in newspapers, or in magazines?

Are you good in organizing? Why not volunteer to organize your company Christmas party or your company outreach?

Are you good in sharing good news? Why not volunteer to do public relations work for your organization and attract more members to become better individuals?

Do you have a wise business idea? Why not launch it today?

Do you see a problem? Why not solve it?

These are just some examples. Think of other things you can do to serve. And serve joyfully!

As you do these, bear in mind that your purpose is simply to serve – as part of your worship while waiting. Serve for the sake of service, as part of your worship. And you can’t help but receive the incidental rewards of service – joy! Yes, there is joy in serving. There is great joy in serving joyfully!

But it doesn’t stop there. At times, there is a bonus that comes with it.

As you serve, you will also get to know other people who are serving. You will get to know people who have the heart for service. You will get to know people whose values are aligned with yours. You will get to know people who share the same faith, core beliefs, and even interests. And because of this, you gain more friends, more people who are like brothers and sisters to you.

And who knows, one of them could be, potentially be, the one you are waiting. That one is waiting as well – and he/she is busily serving, worshipping while he/she waits.

Get excited! Worship while waiting!
