BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan announced that the local government and the environment department were able to locate a site suitable for the put up of a fire substation that will serve the various in the Pacdal area, especially during the occurrence of fire incidents and emergency cases that need timely response from volunteers.
The local chief executive admitted that the earlier proposed site for the put up of the fire substation in Barangay Lualhati was a failure because of the sudden emergence of a claimant of the property that forced the city to abandon the plan to establish the facility in the area.
However, upon consultations with the officials of the environment, Domogan disclosed that they were able to locate an area that was previously ceded to the St. Louis University (SLU) which was not used by the latter for educational purposes until the same was taken back by the agency for future use.
“He claimed that he was able to convince the environment officials to segregate a portion of the property located within the Pacdal and Gibraltar areas purposely to host the construction of the fire substation so that the funds earlier allocated for the purpose will not revert to the general funds.
“We are lucky that we were able to remedy the situation so that we will also have a fire substation that will service the barangays within the area, especially during the occurrence of fire incidents and emergency cases needing response from volunteers, thus, we assure the residents in the concerned barangays that the put up of the fire substation in the area will be realized the soonest.
Earlier, Domogan led the ground-breaking ceremony of the P6 million Quirino Hill fire substation located in West Quirino Hill where he assured the commitment of the local government in the put up of fire substations in strategic areas in the different parts of the city pursuant to the program of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to have at least a 7-minute response in responding to fire incidents in a 7-kilometer road distance.
The Quirino Hill fire substation is the third fire substation of the Baguio fire department that was built through the funds provided by the local government under its annual budget wherein the other fire substations are located in the Irisan and Aurora Hill areas.
According to him, the local government will continue working out the ceding of the property to the city so that it will be able to use the available funds for the construction of the fire substation serving the Pacdal barangays to help save life and limb from being exposed to danger during the occurrence of fire incidents and emergency cases.
Domogan called on the residents of the Pacdal Barangay to await the realization of the project considering that there are still various processes that will be undertaken by the concerned government agencies and the local government before the project will be executed.
