BESAO, Mountain Province – Alumni of the St. James High School (SJHS) belong to Batch 1998 and 1999 recently conducted an outreach mission to one of the remotest village in the municipality as part of giving assistance to the community, especially those that are in need of help due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Anchored with the theme: “Bangon Maliten”, members of the Batch ’98 and ’99 of SJHS conducted a dental mission and outreach program to the residents of Sitio Maliten, Laylaya on August 13, 2022. The members were assisted by three members of Besao Municipal Police Station (MPS).
The alumni of SJHS provided dental extraction to 34 children and adults. They also enjoyed the nutritious and delicious fried chicken and arrozcaldo served and a short drawing session prepared by the alumni. Art materials were then rewarded to two pupils who won the “best drawing.”
Not only that, to make the outreach activity more meaningful, 60 families were also given food packs containing grocery items while 52 pupils of Maliten Elementary School were handed out bags of school supplies containing paper, notebooks, ball pen, pencil, color and drawing books. Likewise, dental kits, assorted candies, stuffed toys, clothing’s and bags were distributed to the residents.
As part of the program, Dr. Gayle N. Contero educated the kids on the DOs and DON’Ts on how to protect their teeth against tooth decay and oral hygiene.
During the program, Attorney Atanacio Addog, alumnus of SJHS Batch ’98 expressed his gratitude to the community for joining the program and bringing with them their children. Also, the school head of Maliten Elementary School, Ms. Rose Songaben and the Barangay Captain Cesar Pagosto praised the group for granting some of the bucket list in the municipality of Maliten by helping the school and the community specially that the municipality is under a state of calamity because of the recent earthquake.
The alumni of SJHS have decided to come up with the outreach activity to encourage and promote the spirit of cooperation and active participation among all members of the society and more importantly, to give hope and smile to the community where they first realize their dreams as once students of Saint James High School.
