TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Bulanao Norte organized the very first batil patung cooking contest on June 1 at the open gymnasium of the Schools Division Office of Tabuk City.
Four entries competed in the event, which, according to Bulanao Norte SK Chairman Marion Tombaga, is one means to promote the production of pancit batil patung in the area, given that the barangay has multiple panciteria and restaurants that serve the delicacy.
Tombaga further stated that the event showcases numerous methods of preparing and cooking pancit batil patung without sacrificing its natural flavor.
Finished products were judged by selected individuals with wide experience on culinary and restaurant management based on taste, texture, presentation, creativity, originality and aroma.
The contest’s mechanics require entries to create 15 plates of their standard pancit for distribution to the audience and players, as well as one overload dish for the invited judges. The participants provide the ingredients, and all cooking and preparation must take place on-site.
The MBD panciteria won the cooking show, followed by 3Bs panciteria, Ryan’s panciteria, and Hang-out Resto in second, third, and fourth place, with cash prizes and certificates worth P6,000.00, P4,000.00, P3,000.00, and P2,000.00, respectively.
Governor James Edduba also supported the activity by providing a monetary incentive of P2,000.00 to each participant, as well as a set of cash awards for team sports events.
Aside from the batil patung culinary event, the SK also organized the summer league, an open entry sports competition on basketball, volleyball, and sepak takraw with the theme “Uniting youth as one through sportsmanship.” By Darwin S. Serion
