TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Lucog Bumaloan Association, the first to receive this year’s second tranche of livelihood grant of PhP300,000 from the Cordillera office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-CAR), announced today the launch of their ice cream vending company.
As the beneficiary association of the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA)– Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), with 27 members, it has already received a total of PhP600,000 to fund their project.
The group opted to start an ice cream vending business due to its high profit margin and the fact that it is a standalone business without the need for additional staff or storefront overheads.
Back in 2023, the group received trainings in organizational development, leadership, fundamental business management, and microenterprise development to completely equip the members and provide them with the necessary capacity to sustain the group and advance their initiatives.
Partners from DSWD-CAR and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) were present at the awarding event, where they gave considerable assistance in completing their approved project proposal.
Assistant CSWD Officer Estefania Baglinit encouraged the group to continue their good status in order to ensure the viability and sustainability of their newly established business, as well as to potentially receive the third and final tranche of cash grant of P300,000.00 from the DSWD.
Participants in this DSWD program, which offers livelihood chances to small groups wishing to launch a business, reduce poverty by generating additional revenue through microenterprise.
In order to maintain openness, the DSWD-CAR reminds members that SLP-PAMANA-funded initiatives are subject to routine monitoring and that they must maintain daily financial transaction records.
Through the SLP, the Department hopes to enhance the livelihood assets and improve the capabilities of the poor and marginalized sector by granting seed capital to support the establishment and operation of their chosen business. By Darwin S. Serion
