BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently commended and congratulated Saint Louis University (SLU) for its remarkable achievements in internationalization initiatives during the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Internationalization Champions of Nation-building and Sustainability (ICONS) Awards 2024.
In a resolution, city legislators stated that SLU set another record in higher education for its achievements in internationalization initiatives during the CHED ICONS Awards 2024 that demonstrated its commitment to global engagement and international collaboration in higher education.
SLU president Rev. Fr. Gilbert Sales, CICM, PhD, was recently honored with the IZN Leadership Award, underscoring his impactful leadership and dedication to enhancing SLU’s internationalization efforts.
Sales’ leadership and direction have significantly contributed to SLU’s success in internationalization as evidenced by the recognition from CHED and he has expressed his gratitude and congratulations to the entire Louisan community for their collective efforts.
Further, SLU also earned the Global Citizenship Award – first runner up, affirming its position as a leader in global education and cross-cultural programs.
During the awarding ceremony last December 16, 2024, the awards were accepted on behalf of SLU by Executive Assistant to the SLU president, Joselito C. Gutierrez, SLU vice president for academic affairs Felina P. Espique and Director of the Office of Global Relations and Alumni Affairs Stephanie Busbus.
Earlier, the CHED held its ICONS Awards 2024 at the Jose Rizal Hall, Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City to recognize outstanding contributions in advancing internationalization in Philippine higher education.
The CHED IZN Leadership Award recognizes an executive official from a higher education institution for exemplary, transformative, and innovative leadership in advancing the internationalization of Philippine higher education highlighting resilience, humility, integrity, and a development-driven mindset.
On the other hand, the Global Citizenship Award is presented to higher education institutions that advance programs promoting inter-cultural learning experiences and provide students opportunities to contribute to addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while committing to active global citizenship.
Moreover, CHED-Cordillera under the leadership of D. Demetrio Anduyan was also recognized as the Best Regional Office for Internationalization for its unwavering commitment of Philippine higher education institutions to fostering global citizenship in advancing internationalization initiatives.
