BAGUIO CITY – THE SLULHS Cubs developmental team spoiled a possible win of the YMCA High School Developmental team B on their game last Sunday, November 22, 2015. The Hi-Yers’ showing of tenacity in their match up against the Cubs gave them the advantage running toe to toe to lead 22- 19 in the first canto of play.
The persistence of both ball clubs continued in the second canto of play however, with the cubs stalking the Yer’s through man-to-man and trap defense, the Hi-Yer’s were seemingly disoriented on how to counteract such but still was able to cling on and force the cubs to seven deadlocks at 39-39 at the second canto of play.
Third canto action also saw the cubs tuning in their offensive supremacy with their big men in the game taking advantage of the smaller Y’ers to slowly take the lead and pile up points. Height matters in basketball, taking advantage of this the cubs big men also made use of their height advantage over the boards to force the Y’ers to foul using the free throw line again to their advantage.
The fourth canto scenario came easy with the cubs controlling the game with their usual running game defense and offensive stance keeping the Y’ers at bay to win the game by thirteen points, 71-58 on end time.
Meanwhile, BERKLEY High School Developmental team A posted a twelve point 56-44 win over San Jose High School in their match up last Sunday. Concentrated on their defences both teams were in team foul trouble early in the first canto of play which explains a low scoring game, with BERKELEY on the front seat to post a 15-11 first quarter score.
Also taking advantage of their stronger defense Berkeley capitalized on the opponents errors to lead until end time of the second canto 31-22, and continuously control the leather in the third canto of play limiting San Jose to only seven points converted on the play. Continuously pounding San Jose with their defense, Berkeley took time to convert more points on the fourth canto to win the game by twelve points at end time.
