BALBALAN, Kalinga July 27 – A government trooper was wounded after members of the Charlie Company of the 50th Infantry Battalion were reportedly ambushed by still undetermined members of the New Peoples Army (NPA) while conducting combat patrol at sitio Capas, barangay Poswoy, here at around 1:30 pm Sunday.
Superintendent Cherry Fajardo, public information officer of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera, identified the wounded soldier as Pfc. Lagyaban who sustained gunshot wound on his arm.
It was learned that the government troopers were reportedly conducting combat patrol in the said place when they were snipped by the NPA rebels who were earlier positioned in the area.
Sensing the arrival of reinforcement from the police and military assigned nearby, the NPA rebels immediately fled towards an undisclosed direction.
At around 2 pm of the same day, Fajardo disclosed combined operating troops were still in their respective blocking areas to monitor the fleeing rebels.
