LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet caretaker congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Yap underscored that members of the United Benguet will not resort to mudslinging in advancing their aspiration for the various elected positions in the provincial and municipal levels in the campaign trail for the upcoming May 9, 2022 synchronized national and local elections.
During the recent proclamation rally of the local political party held at the newly refurbished Wangal Sports Complex, Yap, who chairs the powerful House committee on appropriations and founder of the United Benguet Party, pointed out that he will not engage his rivals in mudslinging during the campaign period because he loves them and does not want their feelings to be unduly hurt simply because of politics, aside from the fact that they are his provincemates as he is already an adopted son of Benguet.
The Benguet caretaker congressman disclosed he will spend the campaign period to continue extending help to the people in the different parts of the province to help them recover from the heavy impact inflicted by the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic because what matters now is for the citizens to have sustainable sources of income for them to recover from the health crisis and be instrumental in bringing back the vibrance of the local economy.
According to him, the challenge to his rivals is for them to continue extending assistance to the people to respond to the needs of their constituents.
Congressman Yap claims he does not want to hurt the feelings of others through mudslinging because after the upcoming political exercise, they will remain constituents of Benguet and they will be rubbing elbows with each other from time to time as public officials or ordinary citizens in whatever scenario that may transpire in the future.
The lawmaker asserted that it will be business as usual for him, especially in helping people in dire need of assistance, as he goes around the province so that the people can feel his dedication and passion to render genuine public service for all regardless of the political party where they belong.
He expressed disappointment over the concerted efforts by some of his rivals and their allies in trying to ruin his image in the eyes of the Benguet people through various misinformation but he is optimistic that voters are intelligent and are able to distinguish right from wrong and that they will vote for the appropriate candidates who will serve them in the future.
He expressed his gratitude to the people who continue to believe in his ability to serve the greater interest of Benguet for their trust and confidence on him despite being an adopted son of the province as he was able to show to them a new brand of leadership that will help in elevating the status of Benguet into one of the most developed provinces in the country once all the desired infrastructure have been put in place by the concerned government agencies and the local government.
