TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Southern Tabuk District team emerged as the champion in the Matagoan Run Relay on June 18, besting five other teams in a thrilling race that marked one of the highlights of the 75th Tabuk Foundation Anniversary and the 2025 Matagoan Festival.
The team, composed of Macario Cosidon, Rosendo Saliw-an, Claimore Agod, Barcilio Yadang, Mehard Batulay, Wowie Amadang, and Jemuel Aggalao, clinched the grand prize of ₱25,000 after a powerful performance that showcased both speed and teamwork.
Trailing close behind was the Western Tabuk District, which secured second place and a cash prize of ₱15,000. Northern Tabuk District took third place, earning ₱10,000, while Eastern Tabuk District and the Philippine National Police (PNP) rounded out the competition in fourth and fifth place, winning ₱8,000 each.
The route for the relay began at Barangay Naneng, the historic first seat of government in Tabuk, and concluded at the City Hall. Runners passed through scenic views with relay stations in Brgy. Bagumbayan (Banat), Brgy. Lucog (Alimani Gas Station), Brgy. Bantay (Dalimuno Park and View Deck), Bado Dangwa Brgy. Hall, Brgy. Bulanao(Block 3), and Golden Berries Hotel.
Tabuk City Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President Andrea Daphne Amla said that the Matagoan Run Relay is an avenue to promote Tabuk tourism by highlighting our scenic views, unique culture, and traditions.
Moreover, she emphasized that the event was more than a competition as it also aims to foster peace, unity, and camaraderie among the youth and encouraging them to be agents of peace in their communities. By Tabuk PIO
