LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The Pangasinan provincial board headed by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. commended all medalists in the recently-concluded Batang Pinoy Luzon Leg which was held from October 21 to 27 at Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
In an approved provincial resolution on November 6 numbered 1097-2017 entitled “Congratulating the Team Pangasinan Winners During The Recently Concluded Batang Pinoy 2017 Luzon Leg Held in Vigan, Ilocos Sur,” it stated that “the august body is looking forward for the young athletes to further hone their skills as well as to build their characters through fair play, competitiveness and respect in representing their hometown.”
As such the resolution also specifically noted the contribution of the basketball boys and girls team for emerging champions in both categories as they defeated other cagers from different contingents.
It can be recalled that Team Pangasinan has taken the third spot in the medal tally after athletes amassed 33 gold, 28 silver and 24 bronze medals.
Team Pangasinan actually needed only one gold medal to barge into a runner-up finish behind top winner Baguio City which hauled 49 gold, 45 silver, 44 bronze medals. Laguna Province which edged Team Pangasinan for second place bagged 34 gold, 20 silver, and 26 bronze medals.
Aside from basketball, Pangasinan athletes mostly bagged their medals in the following events: sepak-takraw, karatedo, lawn tennis, taekwondo, archery, arnis, athletics, boxing, volleyball, and lawn tennis.
A total of 84 local government units participated in this year’s Luzon qualifying leg.
