The Tabuk City Local Government, led by Mayor Darwin Estrañero, provided two days, from March 25-26, of special treatment to all working women in the city hall and other agencies, such as the PESO Kalinga, PNP, BFP, BJMP, and others.
On March 25, the Public Employment Service Office organized beauty care services for female employees, including massages, manicures, and pedicures.
The program included discussions on the Magna Carta for Women, gender-based violence cases against women and children, health and disease, and Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) to educate and remind participants of their rights.
Atty. Joy Gamonnac, CSWDO Director Eusebia Edduba, CHSO Director Henrietta Bagayao, and the city Chief of Police, PLTCOL Benson Macli-ing, facilitated the forums.
Ms. Imelda Casiwan, Community Environment and Natural Resources officer of DENR Kalinga, was the event’s guest speaker, and she commended all the women leaders for their services to society. She also encouraged other women to take the initiative to lead and challenge established norms; “this is when gender development begins,” she stated.
“Kayang-kaya nating mag-lead. The secret of success is to be ready when the opportunity comes, so keep on enhancing your knowledge and skills. Find an avenue for skills development and leadership roles so when the opportunity comes, ready kayo to get higher roles kasi kaya rin nating mga babae,” Casiwan added.
Casiwan also lauded the CLGU and its working groups for carrying out a variety of actions that contributed to considerable progress toward gender equality and women’s empowerment.
In his message, City Mayor Darwin Estrañero emphasized the city’s commitment to gender equality and combating discrimination in hiring.
The event was organized by the Tabuk City Society of Women in Action (SWATC), led by its President Salud Lammawin, with the theme “Babae sa lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas”.
On March 26, SWATC will host a beauty tutorial and a Zumba dance session from 1PM onwards. By Tabuk PIO
