MANGALDAN, Pangasinan – Mangaldan Sports Club (MSC) member athletes gratefully received ten (10) basketball equipment from former Pangasinan Fifth District Representative Mark Cojuangco and incumbent Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay during the opening ceremony of MSC Inter color basketball games held in Macario Ydia Development Center recently.
MSC members expressed their gratitude as they received basketball equipment from the solons. According to MSC athlete Reymarc Ocay, 21, resident of Barangay Gilig, said he was happy the solons initiated a sports-related campaign drive. “Maganda, kasi yung bolang binigay makakatulong sa mga kabataan para ma-expose sa mga sports na tulad ng basketball para naman makaiwas sila sa bisyo. (“These basketballs will promote sports activities to the youth rather than being involved in bad vices]”
Another athlete from Barangay Nibaliw, Darwin Valencia, 14, said that the additional basketballs will be useful during their practice games. “Ayos, kasi magagamit namin ‘to [basketballs] kapag may practice tuwing sabado.” (“Great, because we’ll be using these during our practices every Saturday.”)Valencia stated.
The incumbent mayor and also vice gubernatorial candidate Macanlalay told in an interview that the youth should engage in these kinds of activities instead of involving themselves with bad vices.
According to him, the Local Government Units (LGUs) should initiate solid support for the youth. Macanlalay also added that sport activities will be a stepping stone for developing camaraderie among the youth.
MSC president and sports coordinator Christopher Casupang explained that members of the MSC were divided into five sporting teams. They will compete with other teams in a double round and best-of-three game rules.
