TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Social Security System (SSS) conducted a simultaneous Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) operations in selected areas around the city to call on non-compliant employers to settle their contribution delinquencies.
The team from SSS service offices in the cities of Tabuk and Tuguegarao visited 11 establishments composed of construction company, general merchandise, clinic, palay trading, private school and a spa.
Guadalupe D. Castillo, branch head of SSS Tuguegarao branch said the aim of the RACE is to issue notices to business employers around the city who fail to pay their legal obligations of paying their employer and employees’ share in the contributions because it deprives them of the social security benefits.
After receiving the notice, concerned delinquent employers are given 15 days to coordinate with the SSS Tabuk Office to settle their contribution delinquencies, she said.
During the operation, two of the eleven employers settled their obligations in full.
Under Republic Act No. 11199 or the Social Security Act, employers who fail to register their employees or have not deducted and remitted their contributions will be penalized with a fine of PhP5,000 to PhP20,000 and face imprisonment ranging from six years and one day to 12 years.
The SSS urges all companies to regularly submit their employees’ monthly contributions so that they might be eligible for social security benefits in times of emergency.
Employers are also encouraged to address delinquencies by taking advantage of SSS’s contribution penalty condonation schemes, which allow them to pay unremitted contributions less incurred penalties.
The lawyers of the Legal Department of Luzon North 2 Division, headed by Atty. Arjay Manauis together with the head of SSS Tabuk City Service Office and acting head of the Accounts Management Section of SSS Tuguegarao branch participated in the exercise. By Darwin S. Serion
