The recent rescue of more than one thousand human trafficking victims in Clark, Pampanga should serve as a wake-up call for local authorities as this indicates that the country has become a lair of foreign criminal syndicates.
This is alarming and worrisome as atrocities such as human trafficking, considered a crime against humanity, have no place in a decent society like ours. I call on the Bureau of Immigration, the Department of Justice, the National Bureau of Investigation, and police authorities to dig deeper into the incident and to investigate possible similar cases.
Authorities should also look into the possible connection of this case to certain POGO operators or service providers especially since the place of rescue and arrest was previously a site of POGO operation.
In the recent past, certain POGO operators were found to be involved in trafficking into the country of foreign individuals who, against their will, were forced to work for POGO companies.
