BAGUIO CITY – Local police authorities ordered the intensified strict implementation of the city’s King of the road ordinance as part of the newly adopted Operational Plan Discipline, Respect, Infrastructure, Vigilance and Education (DRIVE).
Police Col. Ruel D. Tagel, City Director of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), said that from May 29 to June 5, 2025, some 305 apprehensions had been made by police personnel for violation of the King of the Road Ordinance.
Earlier, the BCPO launched Oplan DRIVE in support of the implementation of the King of the Road ordinance and as part of its continuous efforts to strengthen traffic law enforcement and promote public safety in the city.
Further, Oplan DRIVE focuses on the three pillars of road safety such as engineering, enforcement and education which aims to aggressively promote discipline and reduce vehicular traffic incidents in the city.
Salient provisions of the city’s King of the Road ordinance or Ordinance No. 7, series of 2010 are the mandatory 5-second full stop of vehicles before pedestrian lanes, the strict prohibition against obstructing any portion of pedestrian lanes, the corresponding penalties for violators and the requirement for offenders to attend mandatory seminars.
Tagel claimed that the vital role of the traffic law enforcement is necessary in safeguarding lives, aside from clarifying that maintaining order and road safety is a shared responsibility of motorists, partner agencies, and pedestrians.
He asserted that every responsible action of people on the road counts and that through proper enforcement and public cooperation, safer streets for everyone can be created and that there will be significant reduction on the number of vehicular accidents around the city in the future.
