City officials recently urged the strict implementation of the Keep Right policy in all walkways, roads, streets, buildings, or structures in the city.
Under Resolution No. 252, series of 2024, city legislators stated that in many situations, collisions and accidents most of the time happen which can easily be avoided by observing the Keep Right movement policy.
The council tasked the City Engineering Office (CEO) to install signages in appropriate walkways, roads, streets, buildings or structures in the city to educate and remind walkers of the Keep Right policy and to encourage everyone to assert and help implement the said policy.
During the Scout Office for A Day (SOFAD) session held on October 23, 2023, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Danielle S. Abarientos that urged the strict implementation of the Keep Right policy in all walkways, roads, streets, buildings or structures in the city.
The council noted that pedestrian collisions stem from the alleged absence of properly defined and diligently enforced walking ordinances in the city.
Further, in narrow walkways, movement is usually slowed down resulting in some crowding because of walkers who are physically impaired or who are burdened with heavy or bulky things they carry, or who are simply leisurely moving, sometimes attending to their cellphones, reading the papers or enjoying some views.
On the other hand, the body stipulated that people walking fast often have to slow down and move from one side to another to find a way which can cause a crowd and result to unnecessary pedestrian collisions in the walkways, roads, streets, buildings or structures. By Dexter A. See
