City officials recently commended Ruth Ellicia B. Batang for her exemplary act of kindness and honesty.
In a resolution, local legislators stated that the local government takes pride in having citizens like the young Batang who exemplified commendable values worthy of emulation not only by fellow students and youth but by all members of the community.
Batang, a resident of Santa Escolastica barangay, is a first-year student of the State-run Benguet State University (BSU) taking up Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.
On May 30, 2024, at around 4 pm, upon embarking on a taxi, she discovered a wallet containing cash and automated teller machine (ATM) cards in the said vehicle with the rightful owner’s identification cards, Lydia A. Puguon, from Nayon, Lmt, Ifugao and is currently in the city as her husband was hospitalized at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for cancer of the tongue.
Batang promptly searched the internet for the owner’s whereabouts and was able to contact her daughter in law for the prompt and eventual return of the wallet to Puguon the following day, refusing the monetary reward being given to her.
The council pointed out that Batang’s display of honesty and integrity exemplifies the morals and values upheld by youth in the city, further solidifying the city’s reputation as a character city.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to Batang and Puguon for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
