BAGUIO CITY – Participants of the Panagbenga Talent and Cultural Showcase performed various forms of songs, dances and theatrical plays to promote Filipino and Cordilleran heritage by means of the performing art at the Melvin Jones Grandstand and Football Grounds recently.
Starting off the show, members of the University of Baguio (UB) Graces Dance Troupe performed ‘tayaw’, followed by the University of Baguio, Graces Chorale, with their renditions of various Filipino folk songs. Saint Louis University’s (SLU) Center for Culture and the Arts came in next with a mix of choral renditions of various contemporary songs and dances, spoken poetry and theatrical performance. The University of the Cordilleras (UC)concluded the show, featuring their UC Drumline and featured Artists.
“First we felt nervous because…another exposure na naman sa labas but…habang nagpe-perform kami, nawala yung kaba. “ (At first, I felt nervous because it’s another chance for exposure outside [the university], but while we were performing, the nervousness started to disappear), a participant said. Another answered “Sa tingin ko napaka-worth it kasi … sobrang saya mag-perform para sa mga tao [at] dahil napapakita namin gaano… kahataw ang mga tao from our university” (I think it’s really worth it because it makes us happy to perform in front of the audience [and] show people how talented students are from our university). The event started at 1:00 and ended early around 4:30 in the afternoon.
The Talent and Cultural Showcase is part of the “Handog ng Panagbenga sa Pamilyang Baguio” program and took place after the Open Painting Competition and Exhibition and the 10th Annual Kite-flying Challenge which were held in the morning. By Aiyra Marzan
