BAGUIO CITY July 12 – Malacanang declared Friday, July 15, 2022 as a special non-working holiday on the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) for the celebration of the region’s 35th founding anniversary.
Proclamation No. 04, series of 2022 signed by Executive Secretary Victor D. Rodriguez by authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. stated that it is but fitting and proper that the people of the Cordillera be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the celebration of the region’s 35th founding anniversary with the appropriate ceremonies subject to the implementation of public health measures of the national government.
On July 15, 2022, CAR will mark the celebration of its 35th founding anniversary with simple but meaningful rites that will be held at the Baguio Convention Center.
President Marcos, Jr. and Senator Imee Marcos are being eyed by the organizers as the guests of honor and speaker during the said occasion for Cordillerans to be able to bring to their attention the region’s quest for autonomy and elicit the support of the present administration to the long overdue aspiration.
Last July 1, 2022, the celebration of the region’s founding anniversary kicked off with a simple program that was held at the St. Mary’s School, Inc. in Sagada, Mountain province which was spearheaded by the regional social development committee of the Regional development Council (RDC) in the Cordillera chaired by regional director Arnel Garcia of the Cordillera office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-CAR).
The CAR was created by virtue of Executive Order (EO) No. 220 issued on July 15, 1987 by the late President Corazon C. Aquino that brought together the provinces of Abra, Benguet, Mountain Province and Baguio City from the Ilocos Region and the provinces of Kalinga-Apayao and Ifugao from the Cagayan Valley Region.
