BAGUIO CITY – The Cordillera Regional Development Council (RDC-CAR) urged all government line agencies, local government units, civil society organizations, and other concerned entities to actively participate in the 29th year commemoration of Cordillera month by July 2016.
The region’s policy-making body stated that to ensure maximum participation during the cordillera month celebration, all stakeholders were enjoined to actively participate and allocate funds in their respective agency budgets for their participation in the celebration of the region’s founding anniversary.
The Cordillera month is celebrated annually to commemorate the creation of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) by virtue of Executive Order (EO) No. 220 and instill in the people of the region an enhanced awareness and deeper appreciation of its rich history and aspirations.
With the theme “CAR at 29: Working Together for an Autonomous and Empowered Cordillera,” the RDC-CAR stated that this year’s celebration is being coordinated by the Regional Social Development Committee with the City Government of Baguio as host local government.
Among the initial activities that were agreed upon by the committee in an earlier meeting were the conduct of a Kapihan on June 29, 2016 at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) grounds, Gong Relay kick-off on July 9, 2016 at the Baguio city Hall grounds, Gong Relay to the different provinces from July 9-15, 2016 courtesy of the Department of the Interior and Local government, tree planting in the areas where the gong is passed from July 9-15, 2016 with the involvement of all CAR provinces with the support of the local governments, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Agriculture, Coffee Pavilion on July 15, 2016 with the involvement of the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture and Technical Education Skills Development Authority, trade fair which will be announced later, the Cordillera Got Talent and Song Writing Contest courtesy of the Commission on Higher Education and DSWD, provincial multi-sectoral conferences on July 9-14, 2016 in all CAR provinces courtesy of the DSWD and Department of Health, Cordillera month culmination program and civic-military parade on July 15, 2016.
One of the highlights of the celebration of the launching of the Cordillera Struggles monograph with the scheduled to be announced later considering that such document contains the personal stories of those who were actively involved in the struggle for the realization of peace in the Cordillera.
The Forwarding Local Autonomy Medal of Excellence (FLAME) awarding rites will be included as part of the Cordillera month culmination program so that there will be witnesses to the excellence performance of local government units and regional agencies in the advancement of the renewed quest for regional autonomy.
