LUNA, Apayao – The Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO) Apayao recently bestowed the Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace accreditation upon the Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Office Apayao.
The recognition ceremony took place at the Department of Health (DOH) office in Apayao on May 2, 2024.
This recognition comes as a result of SWAD-Apayao’s adherence to Republic Act No. 10028, commonly known as the “Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009.”
The achievement followed next the comprehensive evaluation conducted on October 18, 2023, affirming SWAD-Apayao’s dedication to creating a supportive environment for nursing mothers and their children.
SWAD-Apayao underwent an assessment process, considering various criteria such as the presence of lactation facilities, supportive workplace policies, and educational initiatives aimed at highlighting the advantages of breastfeeding for both employees and clients.
This notable milestone underscores SWAD-Apayao’s commitment to upholding the rights of working mothers and advancing a family-friendly workplace ethos.
SWAD Apayao Team Leader Gretchen P. Garcia expressed her gratitude, stating, “The provision of paraphernalia and guidance of the DOH-CAR and DSWD-HRWS in the establishment of our Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace equipped our personnel and facility to effectively cater to the needs of our vulnerable sector. We are grateful for having a functional mother and friendly facility that promotes breastfeeding and establishes a safe space for mothers to be nurtured and valued by the government offices.” By Michelle Acantilado
