TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero during the flag-raising ceremony today led the awarding of certificates recognizing the 4-H Club members who will represent the city at the 4-H Regional Convention in Sablan, Benguet on May 17 to 19. Five Tabukeño youth who will join the Filipino Young Farmers Internship Program in Taiwan (FYFIPT) were also recognized.
Among the city’s representatives to the regional 4-H tilt is Vergel Solimen of 4-H Club KSU Dagupan Chapter who fashioned weave baskets out of coconut husk as entry to the “4H Trashformation” contest. Giovanni Addatu of Nambucayan 4-H Club will compete in the 4H Agri-innovation Pitching with his solar-powered flatbed drier for corn.
Rounding off Tabuk’s contingent are Jaylord Ambasing and Brixton Ambasing, Nambucayan 4-H Club (4H SongCon: Duet), Lexyn Dawaton and Mark Jons Remigio, KSU Agri 4-H Club (4H Coconut-based Cooking Contest), Jeremy Padua, KSU Agri 4-H Club (4H Quiz Bee), Laurenz Taguibao, Lucog 4-H Club (4H Agri-Tale Movie Making Contest).
Meanwhile, the city through the Office for the City Agricultural Services will be sending off five interns to Taiwan under the Filipino Young Farmers Internship Program in Taiwan (FYFIPT). Jovani Tabbu, Giovanni Addatu, Reydan Omeccas, Nellie Magadang, and John Rey Pantoloc will undergo an 11-month internship to gain skills in modern agricultural techniques and management.
These youth will be undergoing the pre-departure orientation course at the ATI Central Office this June before their flight in July. Upon their return, the interns will be implementing their projects in their respective communities applying the skills gained from the FYFIPT.
4-H Club Coordinator, Noribelle A. Salibad said that this year, the Department of Agriculture-CAR doubled the number of slots for the FYFIPT to ten interns five of whom hail from Tabuk City.
City Agriculturist Lim Ducyogen, hailed the city’s 4-H Club members’ achievements adding that Tabuk City has consistently sent young farmers to international internships through the city government’s support and funding for the 4-H Club Program. By PIO Tabuk
