Tabuk braces for 75th founding anniv, 18th Matagoan fest

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Various activities had been lined up by the city government for the celebration of Tabuk’s 75th founding anniversary as a municipality and the 18th Matagoan Festival that will run from June 6-20, 2025.

Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero said that this year’s celebration will be one of its kind because it will be Tabuk’s Diamond Anniversary as a municipality by virtue of Republic Act (RA) 531 issued on June 23, 2025.

The celebration fired off with a tree planting activity last June 6, 2025 followed by a bloodletting event last June 7, 2025.

The city will be spearheading a Thanksgiving mass which will be followed by the grand ceremonial opening program on June 9.

On June 12, 2025, the traditional Patawid Agro-industrial and Food Fair will be opened that will simultaneously be done with the conduct of the Matagoan Wellness and Jobs Fair and World Child Labor Day celebration with the support of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

The Coronation Night of the Search for Miss Tabuk 2025 and the Matagoan Bike Fest will be held on June 14.

Representatives of the city’s sister cities from Makati City; Quezon City; Batac, Ilocos Norte; Gregorio del Pilar, Ilocos Sur; and the sister municipalities of Kabayan, Benguet; Bauko, Tadian, Sabangan and Sagada, of Mountain Province will be arriving in the city on June 15 in preparation for the 75th Founding Anniversary program that will be held on June 16 where they will be joining the traditional civic military parade.

The grand civic parade and the city Foundation Day program will be held on June 16 that will be capped with a festival lunch.

High schools will be joining the drum and lyre band competition aside from the Local Government Unit Gala Night and sister LGUs Fellowship that will be followed by the 75th  Founding Anniversary fireworks display on the same day.

The city’s agriculture industry stakeholders will be joining the parade on June 17 which will be followed by the main program where Alexander Raquepo of the Bureau of Soil and Water Management and Baguio City Congressman-elect Mauricio G. Domogan will be the guests of honor and speakers. This event will be immediately followed by the Matagoan Indigenous Food Festival and the much-awaited festival lunch.

Moreover, the widely patronized Agri-Vet indigenous games, Veterelympics and agri-booth as well as the Farmers’ Fellowship and youth-led band concert will be done in the afternoon and evening, respectively of June 17.

The Matagoan Run Relay and the Matagoan Banga Relay and the Barangay and Cultural Parade will be held on June 18 where the city’s 43 barangays will be joining the said prestigious event. Different visiting streetdancing contingents will be participating in the invitational streetdance parade while the stage program and grand showdown will also be done on June 18 where Senator-elect Rodante Marcoleta will serve as the guest of honor and speaker.

The cultural ritual production and Barangay Solidarity and Awards Night will be held on June 18.

The celebration will be capped with a Celebrity Concert where the famous band River Maya will be performing on June 20 and will end with another spectacular fireworks display. By Dexter A. See
