TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Over a hundred barangay officials of Tabuk, including barangay secretaries and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons, underwent a capacity-building seminar called “Barangay Newly Elected Officials towards Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent Barangays (BNEO-GREAT),” today, February 6.
City Local Government Operations Officer Helen Lacuesta said BNEO-GREAT is a capacity-development program of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) aimed at improving the competency of barangay officials, staff and other stakeholders.
Lacuesta said the program involving a series of activities and learning interventions is a continuing activity that barangay officials have to undergo until the end of their term.
It aims to enhance their understanding regarding their assigned duties, as well as to improve their personal, managerial, and leadership skills, she stated.
Barangay officials are also expected to exhibit measurable positive performance in governance, actively embodying values like transparency, accountability, integrity, and citizen participation.
Acting Mayor Dick Bal-o challenged the participants to do well in their roles and functions, as the city government leans on barangays for support. He also assured the full support of the city local government unit.
This is the third batch of the basic orientation course seminar provided to barangay officials in Tabuk. The first and second batches were held on January 13 and February 1–2, respectively. By Rod Asurin
