For this event, the CSCCO prepared various contested events like singing of the Cordillera Hymn, Zumba and cultural dance, and senior citizens got talent, which according to Marydhel Lattot, CSCCO’s social welfare officer is a showcase of the elderlies’ talents.
Lattot said there are 10,000 registered senior citizens here based on the records of the Office for the Citizens Affairs (OSCA).
In a message given by City Councilor Lucretina Sarol, she emphasized the city ordinances she authored to promote the well-being and welfare of indigent elderlies such as increasing the social pension of qualified senior citizens, the PhP10,000.00 incentive for individuals who reach the age of 80, 85, 90 and 95.
The Elderly Filipino Week celebration is anchored on Proclamation No. 470, s. 1994, issued by former President Fidel V. Ramos. It is declared every first week of October referred to as Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino or Elderly Week to give importance to elderly Filipinos in nation-building.
