TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Tabuk City Athletic Meet (City Meet) has finally resumed after three years of absence owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the theme “Sustaining Resiliency and Excellence through Sports”.
The Tabuk City Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) Irene Angway, believes that everyone should be part of the sporting events, not just the student athletes and their coaches, highlighting the value of sportsmanship, saying “In sports, we have to exercise that. And without sportsmanship, magkakagulo tayo.”
She continued by saying that the student athletes should learn how to accept defeat and how to revel in victory. She also thanked the city government for its unwavering assistance.
She claimed that the City Meet is a chance, particularly for student athletes, because at sporting events, scouts might be on hand to watch the players and some might possibly offer them scholarships to play for their schools.
“This is the time for you to practice what you have learned, from your coaches and from everybody who have guided you,” she said.
Arnold Tenedero, the city administrator, spoke on behalf of city mayor Darwin Estrañero and emphasized the value of sportsmanship. According to him, the city government will always support the City Schools Division and the demands for the children’s physical and mental education to the best of its ability.
He claimed that the District Meet, City Meet, Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet, and other events had received funding from the City Government.
“We strongly believe that with the support of the city government, you will sustain your resilience and attain excellence,” he said.
When he addressed the student athletes, the administrator told them that while competing, there will inevitably be pain and defeat, but they should rise above it and carry on.
Tenedero concluded by saying that he anticipates that some student athletes will represent the city in the forthcoming CARAA and that they may expect support from the city government when the time comes.
