TABUK CITY, Kalinga – With March being International Women’s Month, the City Local Government Unit of Tabuk (CLGU), through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), conducted a women’s month celebration with the theme “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society”.

Many Kalipunan ng mga Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) members from all across the city attended.

According to CSWD Officer Susana Daluping, this month is a good opportunity to think about women, both past and present. She added that one of the CSWD’s goals is to advance women’s emancipation.

“Haan nga gapu nga empowerment kuna mi ket nangat-ngatu kayu nu lallaki. No, we are speaking of equality,” she clarified.

Daluping urged women to work together to support one another and to tell their partners to “MOVE” (Men Opposed to Violence against Women Everywhere).

Councilor Lucretina Sarol, stated that a woman has enormous duty, particularly as a mother, and that the mother is ultimately responsible for the wellbeing of the family.

“Amin tayu ket maban-bannug nga agtrabaho ta kayat tayu nga simpaen biag iti pamilya tayu. In every woman’s dream is a peaceful home and a harmonious relationship inside that home,” she said.

City Mayor Darwin Estañero shared the same sentiment saying that the purpose of celebrating women’s month is to remember and give thanks to the contribution of women in society.

“Isu daytuy iti bigbigen tayu iti napalabas nga tulung iti kababaihan, ken daytuy madama nga agser-serbisyo para iti pagsayaatan iti lugar tayu,” he said.

He also recounted the sacrifice his wife took as she bravely conceived their last child despite knowing that it will endanger her own life in the process.

“Her choice to have another child proved how strong a woman can be. Especially a mother sacrificed herself for her family.”

“Tatta, idanun mi iti nauneg nga panagrespeto ken panagdayaw mi kanyayu nga kababaihan,” he ended.
