TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The city has been officially placed under a state of calamity after the City Council adopted and approved Resolution No. 01, Series of 2024. The declaration follows the damages caused by a series of typhoons Kristine, Marce, Nica, Ofel, and Pepito, which left the city with extensive damages to agriculture, infrastructure and livestock.
During the council deliberation, Raul Albert, representing the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), presented a detailed report on the losses. Infrastructure sustained the heaviest blow, with damages amounting to PhP112.9 million. The agricultural sector followed, with nearly PhP90 million in damages, while losses to livestock and poultry reached almost PhP1 million.
“The series of typhoons has caused significant destruction, leaving the city with critical damages that require immediate intervention,” Albert emphasized.
To address the crisis, the City Council directed the CDRRMC to provide additional documents, including reports from the Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis, to supplement the resolution. These documents will serve as a foundation for coordinated response and recovery planning.
Authorities are also working to keep the public informed of safety measures and recovery efforts while extending social support, such as counseling, to affected residents.
The city government is collaborating with national agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private sector partners to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated response. The state of calamity will remain in effect until the city stabilizes and recovery efforts are successfully completed. By Jesse Maguiya
