TABUK CITY, Kalinga – To acknowledge their efforts in caring for the environment, each school and barangay in the city spearheaded by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), conducted the awarding ceremony of the cleanest and greenest schools, barangays, and the best Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) operation by a barangay.
According to CENRO Officer Salud Lammawin, the validation for the search started a year ago and that their accomplishments up until now have all been tallied.
“Dito natin malalaman natutulungan ng schools, at the same time ang ating mga respective barangays ang implementation ng ating mga environmental programs ng syudad,” she said.
Lammawin also said that this also coincides with the validation of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the Seal Good Local Governance (SGLG) awards because environment is one of its factors.
Representing City Mayor Darwin Estrañero, Oliver Gacuya lauded the barangay officials, the Department of Education (DepEd)- Tabuk, and the schools who actively participated with CENRO’s war against the destruction of the environment.
“Without them, we could not help mitigate the proliferation of plastic bags that are polluting our water systems and our land,” he said.
He added that with the sheer volume of wastes being thrown into our waterways that eventually ends in the oceans, a great number of fishes and other marine species are dying which could affect the global economy, not just ours.
Chairman on Environmental Protection Hon. Samuel Suma-al thanked the participants saying that they sacrificed their time and effort to protect the environment.
“Adu nga sakripisyo, adu nga oras iti in-gulgul yu tapnu kasta ket matulunga tayu daytuy environment tayu,” he said.
As chair on environmental protection, he promised to continue to support the fight against waste and that he is already crafting more ordinances to help environmental protection.
