TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The local government is setting its sights to the put up of a state-of-the-art sports complex and an 8,000 seat convention center that will position the thriving component city to be one of the potential sports and convention hubs in Northern Luzon in the future, Mayor Darwin C. Estrn֮ero said here recently.
Esran֮ero, who is pioneering the city’s sustainable growth and development through active collaboration with concerned sectors, said that the local government was able to identify a 5-hectare prime property within the heart of the city to serve as the site for the ongoing construction of the 100-bed city-owned hospital, the proposed sports complex and the premier convention center.
However, he admitted that one of the major hindrances to the realization of the proposed sports complex and convention center is the inadequate resources of the local government that is why he will closely work with concerned government agencies, the Office of newly installed Rep. Carolyn Agyao and prospective investors for the realization of the two major projects that will position Tabuk to be one of the major sports and convention hubs in the north.
He envisions the sports complex to have a rubberized track oval, state of the-sort aquatic center and modern facilities that will cater to the needs of sports enthusiasts while the convention center will depend on the funds that will be made available with the provision for further expansion once there will be additional resources that will be infused in the future.
Tabuk is the third largest city in the country with a land area of more than 701 square kilometers which is being also groomed as the future regional center of the Cordillera once the autonomous region will be established in the future.
The city was able to pursue the implementation of a modern public market and a central terminal with a mall in partnership with XRC Mall Developers while the local government is pursuing the implementation of the construction of the city-owned hospital that will guarantee the efficient and effective delivery of quality health care services to the people not only from the city’s 43 barangays but also the whole Kalinga province.
Mayor Estran֮ero claimed that numerous business owners have signified their intention to establish their respective operations in the city where some of the big names in the food chain industry have already their operations while big banks are set to open their branches in the city in the future that will surely make Tabuk a bastion of development in the next several years.
Under the city’s comprehensive land use plan and zoning ordinance, no large scale development will be allowed at least 100 meters from the center line or 50 meters from each side to ensure that the roads around the city will be spacious to cater to the expected increase in the volume of vehicles plying the same in the future when development shall have already been put in place.
The mayor pointed out that the local government wants to make sure that appropriate measures are in place with the expected influx of development to ensure that there will be no future problems in terms of urban decay in the future because the same will already be immediately addressed with the implementation of stringent regulations of the developments that will be introduced in the different parts of the city to sustain its identity as a melting pot of culture and heritage.
