TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The city government expressed its heartfelt gratitude to Cebu City for the P3 million financial assistance it gave to cities that were affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake that struck Northern Luzon last July 27, 2022.
Mayor Darwin C. Estran֮ero stated that the amount given by the Queen City of the South led by Mayor Mike Rama will definitely go a long way in assisting victims of the earthquake from the city.
On behalf of Mayor Darwin Estrañero, population program officer Doris Pocais and executive assistant Cris Domingo received the check from Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama during the first day of the League of Cities of the Philippines convention held in Cebu recently.
Mayor Rama said that said it has always been his mission to help those in need, especially heritage cities affected by the recent earthquake in the northern province of Luzon.
“When heritage is destroyed, the soul of the city is also affected. That is why we (Cebu City) stood to be generous with those affected,” Rama said.
The administration of Mayor Rama is providing a total of P50 million in cash assistance to local government units in Northern Luzon who were hit by the quake.
The amount given for each local government is as follows: PhP3 million each for the cities of Vigan, Candon, San Fernando, Baguio and Tabuk, and PhP2 million each for the municipalities of Tayum, Bangued, Bucay, Caoayan, Kabayan, while the province of Abra got PhP25 million.
For his part, Mayor Estra֮nero assured the Cebu city government that the funds will be wisely used for the benefit of the earthquake victims in the city for them to be able to recover from the impact of the tremblor.
“We express our sincerest gratitude to Cebu City for acting us our big brother during these difficult times to help us recover from the impact of the natural disaster to the state of our respective areas of jurisdiction. We continue to pray for the success of Cebu City in its endeavor to be a big brother to all,” Mayor Estra֮nero stressed.
