TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The City Veterinary Services Office held an Animal Welfare Orientation Seminar today, May 28, 2025, at M Hotel. The event gathered local livestock raisers and farmers for a full-day session focused on improving animal welfare.
The seminar, themed “Promoting Responsible Animal Care for a Sustainable Livestock and Poultry Industry Anchored in the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 (RA 8485),” aimed to increase awareness and compliance with national animal welfare laws and best practices.
The program included lectures and interactive discussions. Key topics covered the legal aspects of animal welfare under RA 8485, correct animal handling and transport standards, and common problems in livestock and poultry shipping, transport, slaughter and local requirements. The Vet Office reiterated the need for “Live Animal” stickers on transport vehicles, a requirement for Tabuk City raisers.
The City Veterinary Office also warned of strict checkpoint inspections to ensure animal quality and protect consumers and emphasized the importance of proper animal handling during long-distance transport to prevent animal deaths. An open forum allowed attendees to ask questions and discuss their concerns.
During the afternoon session, discussion focused on biosecurity and farm management, addressing common welfare challenges in livestock and poultry farming. The seminar also covered documentation and compliance requirements under RSBA (Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture) and PCIC (Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation) guidelines.
Additionally, UNAHCO/Pigrolac presented products that support animal health and welfare in farming.
The seminar served as a valuable platform for sharing knowledge, updating on regulations, and engaging the community. It reinforced the city’s ongoing efforts to uphold animal welfare standards and promote best practices in agriculture, emphasizing practical implementation for a humane and sustainable local industry.
