TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In line with National Breastfeeding Month, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) awarded certificates of accreditation to several institutions in the city in recognition of their exceptional commitment to breastfeeding support on August 5, 2025 in a ceremony held at the People’s Gymnasium.
The awards honor these institutions for their adherence to Republic Act 10028 also known as the “Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009.”
Notably, the city government received a special recognition as a “Mother-Baby Friendly Workplace,” having met the Act’s statutory requirements by establishing a dedicated breastfeeding room on the first floor, thereby providing a supportive environment for breastfeeding employees and visitors alike.
In addition, Tabuk rural health units 1 and 4 were similarly recognized with certificates of accreditation having demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering mother-baby friendly environments, which aligns with the provisions of the Act aimed at promoting and supporting breastfeeding practices.
The awarding, integrated with the city’s routine flag-raising event, highlighted the critical role of workplaces and healthcare facilities in creating environments that support breastfeeding.
The recognition underscores the significant contributions of these institutions to national efforts aimed at enhancing maternal and child health.
The PHO extended its commendations to the honored institutions, emphasizing the importance of their initiatives in advancing community health and well-being. By Edward Joseph Gacuya
