TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The city is this year’s host of the general assembly of the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners Northern Luzon Chapter, Inc (PIEPNLCI).
PIEPNLCI President and City Planning and Development coordinator Maricel Kiley said the purpose of the event is to gather the environmental planners in Northern Luzon to present the accomplishment of the chapter, update them on guidelines and issuances on environmental planning, and discuss issues concerning the profession.
City Mayor Darwin Estrañero, in his message addressed the environmental planners to strengthen their commitment to sustainability and green technology and innovations as balance between progress and environmental preservation is increasingly a concern.
“I look forward to the rich discussions and insights that will emerge from this assembly and I am confident that together, we can pave the way toward greener city and form resilient communities…the actions that we take today reshape the future of our communities,” the mayor said.
One of the resource speakers, landscape architect Faith Dumaligan, discussed the importance of location and people in the planning and designing process in her discussion on creating climate-resilient places.
Additional speakers include Shaquile Buraga, Local Government Operations Officer of the Cordillera office of the Department of Interior and Local Government, on Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan; Atty. Apolonio Anota, Jr., PIEP National President on Jurisprudence in Zoning; Antonette Anaban on Resilient and Green Human Settlements Framework; and Francis Randy Hortelano on Financing Infrastructure for Sustainable Eco-Tourism Development.
