TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The City Government of Tabuk, led by Mayor Darwin Estrañero, participated in the 128th Rizal Day celebration held on December 30 at the Rizal Park within the City Hall Compound.
This year’s commemoration, themed “Rizal sa Bagong Pilipinas: Buhay at Aral, Aming Nilalandas,” brought together various agencies and institutions for a wreath-laying ceremony and a brief program.
In his message, Mayor Estrañero highlighted the significance of the day, emphasizing the enduring legacy and spirit of national hero Dr. José Rizal.
“The life and teachings of Rizal remain timeless, symbols of patriotism, leadership, and sacrifice that continue to shape our nation’s future,” he stated.
Estrañero also reflected on one of Rizal’s most influential quotes, underlining its relevance in modern times.
“Rizal’s writings sparked a movement for our nation’s liberation by spreading knowledge and understanding. He taught us that even small contributions, when made with conviction, can lead to profound change,” he added.
He urged fellow leaders and public servants to embody integrity, passion, and dedication in their roles, with a focus on serving the people for the greater good.
“Let Rizal’s sacrifice inspire us to realize his vision of a truly independent and prosperous Philippines,” he said.
The mayor also celebrated recent accomplishments in the city. “Our commitment to transparency and public service has been recognized with three Seals of Good Local Governance from the DILG,” he shared. “Additionally, Tabuk City has earned the distinction of being an ASEAN Clean Tourist City, alongside Singapore, and we have also been honored with the Gawad Liyab for our innovative contributions in various sectors, including health services, business permits, public employment, and disaster management.”
Also present during the event are Lone District of Kalinga Representative Allen Jesse Mangaoang represented by Reggie Wacas, Former Tinglayan Mayor Johnny Maymaya Sr. representing Governor James Edduba, Vice Governor Jocel Baac, Dr. Joy P. Doctor, President of Kalinga State University, represented by Atty, William Puday, Jr,, as well as employees from the city and provincial governments, members of the Philippine Veterans-Kalinga chapter, members of the Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, Bureau of Fire Protection, Knights of Columbus, Free Masons, Ladies of the Amaranth, and other guests.
