TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The city government, through the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation and City Special Concerns and Coordinating Office, formally kicked-off the Linggo ng Kabataan on August 3.
In his message, City Vice Mayor Dick Bal-o, said this event is an opportunity to unite the youth by sharing their skills in the different contested events.
Bal-o also encouraged the youth participants to focus on their studies, and shy away from illegal activities such as the use of prohibited drugs and violence.
Dr. Caroline Agyao, the opening program’s guest speaker, advised the kids to set a positive example and to exemplify discipline and excellent morals.
Agyao also encouraged the youth participants to work together, respect one another, focus on their studies, and prioritize their mental health.
Her message also focused on some of the Office of the Congressman’s services, such as scholarships and medical help, which, she said, are available to everybody.
For this Linggo ng Kabataan, the Office of the Congressman also distributed PhP18,000 to the SK in each barangay in the city, as well as an additional PhP20,000 from Agyao’s personal funds to supplement the awards.
PLTCOL Medie Lapangan Jr, Chief of PCADU of the Kalinga Police Provincial Office shared pointers on safe driving and other road safety tips.
The Linggo ng Kabataan, with the theme “From clicks to progress: Youth digital pathways for sustainable development,” will run for two weekends, to give ample time for arts and sports competitions like basketball, volleyball and sepak takraw. By Darwin S. Serion
