TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Officials and employees of the city government were in full force in honoring women during the culminating program of the Women’s Month celebration with the theme “WE for gender equality and inclusive society,” on Monday, March 27.
Spearheaded by the Society of Women in Action of Tabuk City (SWATC), an organization of women employees of the city government, the event was graced by Segundina Magtanao as the guest speaker and Councilor Lucretina S. Sarol, chairperson of the Committee on Women and Children of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
In her message, Magtanao recalled the sacrifices of raising eight children as a single parent. She said that it was never a burden but a good experience and a source of inspiration.
Recognizing the heavy responsibility of woman in family life and in the society, Councilor Sarol encouraged men to share in the responsibility especially at home saying: “Nadagsen ti nakapatong ti balikat ti babbai, uray nabannog uray inya ti mapaspasamak ti biyag na kinakaya because we do not want to fail our family kinakaya kahit napakahirap, husband matuto tumulong sa weaknesses of wife tapnu napintas ti pagbanagan ti pamilya tayu.”
Vice Mayor Dick Bal-o remarked that the country has made remarkable strides in advancing women’s rights and urged all women to continue to strive and be aware of the legal protections available to them under the laws.
Similar to how males are more likely to succeed when given equal opportunities and the power to make decisions that affect their well-being, Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero stated that women are more inclined to do the same.
“Isu nga taatta dakayu nga kababaihan daytuy ti panang recognize ti gobyerno kadakayu ta dakayu ti makin ammu ti pagsayaatan yu and daytuy ti mangipakita nga that the city government recognize your importance in the development of the city isu nga dakkel ti pammati mi kadakayu,” he said.
