TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – The city government of Tabuk participated in a productive coordination meeting with Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Sancho A. Mabborang, together with representatives from DOST Regional Office II (DOST-RO2), DOST-CAR, and the city government of Cauayan City, held at the DOST Regional Office II Conference Hall in this city.
Representing Tabuk City were City Information Officer and Focal Person Aurora Amilig and City Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) Head Salud Lammawin, along with their respective staff.
The meeting stemmed from discussions raised during the #KaSiyensyaKordilyera Provincial Caravan held in Kalinga on February 19–20, 2025, specifically regarding the use of pyrolysis technology as a solution for ecological solid waste management in Tabuk.
A follow-up online meeting was conducted on March 24, 2025, involving stakeholders including Suki Trading Corporation, the City ENRO, and PSTO-Kalinga. The following key points were highlighted: Tabuk City currently generates approximately 12–15 tons of solid waste per day; the city governments of Cauayan City and Laoag City, have successfully adopted pyrolysis technology as a benchmark; for Tabuk City, a 5 cu.m./hr. capacity pyrolysis system is recommended to accommodate future increases in waste generation and Suki Trading Corporation has submitted their equipment quotation to the City ENRO for review.
During the May 2 meeting, Suki Trading Corporation presented various waste management technologies suited for Tabuk City, and detailed discussions were held to refine the project and explore potential implementation pathways.
The gathering also served as a platform for benchmarking, with Tabuk officials learning from the experiences of other local government units (LGUs) that have already integrated pyrolysis systems into their waste management practices.
DOST Undersecretary Mabborang expressed the department’s commitment to supporting LGUs in science and technology initiatives, noting that DOST is open to providing financial counterparts for projects aligned with their mandate
Also present were Regional Directors Nancy Bantog and Virginia Bilgera of DOST-CAR and DOST-RO2, PSTO Director of Kalinga Jasmine Dona-al along with other key officials and stakeholders, signaling strong inter-agency and inter-regional collaboration moving forward. By Ian Addatu
