TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) together with City Information and Technology Office (CICTO) has reiterated its call to all barangay officials in Tabuk City to closely coordinate with their office and the Tabuk City Police Office (TCPO) before installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems in their respective areas.
Engineer Domingo Burcio, head of the POSO, emphasized the importance of adhering to proper guidelines and protocols to ensure the effective use of CCTVs in maintaining public safety and order. Burcio highlighted that the CPOSO and Tabuk City Police Office is tasked with identifying strategic locations for CCTV placement to maximize their effectiveness.
Burcio clarified, “We have noticed that certain locations have numerous CCTVs that are not placed strategically.” Before installing CCTVs, barangay authorities are advised to work with the police and POSO to make sure the devices are positioned in key locations.
Additionally, Burcio reminded barangay officials not to share any video footages or clips on social media without first obtaining permission from the authorities, particularly when they deal with crimes or vehicular accidents. Citing reports of similar events from POSO workers, he cautioned that “posting videos without following protocol could compromise ongoing investigations or case build-ups.”
Currently, POSO data shows that 74 CCTVs are installed across Tabuk City, but only 57 are active. Despite these problems, Burcio highlighted that POSO encourages barangays to install CCTVs while emphasizing the importance of good cooperation with local government units (LGUs) to guarantee a strategic and methodical approach.
Barangay officials are encouraged to follow these instructions to make the best use of CCTVs as a public safety resource and contribute to a safer Tabuk City. By Jesse Maguiya
